João
João was a massive bull with a shoulder height of 340cm. As his tusks approached a length of over 250cm and weighted over 60kg each, he was one of the famous so-called Magnificent Seven, the big tuskers whose names are adorning our Elephant Strength bottles. These seven elephants were noted as the biggest bulls ever found in the Kruger National Park. To be more exact, Joao ranked as the heaviest ivory carrier of these special bulls at that time.
Unfortunately, he broke both of his tusks close to the lip-line in 1984, presumably during a fight with another bull. The pieces were never found and as a result João is the only member of the Magnificent Seven who is not represented in the Letaba Elephant Hall.
